Who can join the preview?
Anthropic announced Claude Duet on 21 October 2026, opening a waitlist for a research preview of its proactive assistant. The initial offer covers Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States. The product FAQ says Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet.
The practical distinction is between eligibility and access: having one of those plans does not mean Duet is available immediately. Anthropic directs eligible users to join the waitlist and says it will email them when access is ready. The announcement does not provide a UK launch date.
Background work shares your existing limits
Duet is included in the eligible plans during the preview, but it does not come with a separate pool of unlimited work. Anthropic says it shares the same usage limits as the rest of Claude. Its background checks count toward those limits, and larger tasks require more model turns and background work.
Those background checks also draw on the allowance available for other Claude work. Anthropic says Duet checks every few hours, rather than continuously, because more frequent checks would consume the allowance faster. Users can tell it what they want to hear about and how often.
A separate app on mobile and the web
The preview runs in a standalone app on iOS and Android, with computer access through claude.ai. For now, Anthropic says Duet remains separate from the main Claude app. It carries over the account's memory, skills and connected apps.
According to Anthropic, the assistant can send a morning brief and keep working in its own cloud computer while the user's device is off. These are the provider's descriptions, rather than results of Briefpixel testing. Anthropic also cautions that the preview can misread a thread or judge urgency incorrectly.
