Which backgrounds open first?
Pokémon GO has announced that Trainer profiles will show a buddy Pokémon’s Location Background or Special Background. The rollout has two different starting points.
On 6 November 2026 at 10am local time, display opens for the GO Wild Area 2026 Location Backgrounds for Sendai and Mexico City.
On 9 November at 10am local time, it opens for the GO Wild Area 2026 Special Background and all previously released Location Backgrounds. Other Special Backgrounds will follow later; dates have not been given.
Your friend’s local time matters
The announcement says friends cannot see a buddy’s background until 10am in their own local time. Reaching the opening time on your account does not mean every friend has reached it too.
Check the background type and the relevant date before treating a missing display as a problem. This is a display rollout for qualifying backgrounds, rather than a promise that every player receives a new background.
