What the reported quarter shows
Applied Optoelectronics reported its third-quarter results on November 5 for the period ended September 30. Revenue was US$269.9 million, compared with US$118.6 million a year earlier. GAAP net income was US$6.3 million, versus a US$17.9 million loss a year earlier.
The company’s unaudited table still shows an operating loss of about US$1.4 million. Its positive net result should therefore be distinguished from an operating profit. Adjusted, non-GAAP net income was US$14.8 million; the release provides a reconciliation.
The US manufacturing timetable faces a constraint
Management says its 2027 US capacity expansion plan will take longer to complete because obtaining electrical power is taking more time than expected, alongside other construction issues. Separately, it puts total manufacturing equipment capacity at approaching 330,000 units per month.
The release targets enough installed equipment for more than 500,000 monthly 800G and 1.6T products by the end of 2026, and capacity above one million per month by the end of 2027. These are equipment-capacity plans, not reported shipments or guaranteed delivery volumes, and the release does not break those targets down by factory.
Keep forecasts separate from recorded sales
For the fourth quarter, management forecasts revenue of US$385 million to US$420 million. That outlook and the capacity targets are forward-looking statements, subject to risks.
Readers comparing the results can use the company’s tables to separate GAAP and adjusted measures, and actual revenue from production targets. The announcement does not name the new hyperscale customer or provide an exact revised completion date for the US expansion.
