Thomas finishes the winning drive

Florida State defeated Boston College 31-24 at Alumni Stadium on November 7, giving interim head coach Rick Stockstill a victory in his first game in charge. Both teams now stand at 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the ACC.

Amari Thomas ran for a career-best 98 yards on 19 carries and scored twice. His 11-yard touchdown with 2:29 remaining finished a 90-yard drive that lasted eight minutes and 16 seconds.

Ten unanswered points in the final quarter

Boston College led 24-21 entering the fourth quarter. Gabe Panikowski’s 22-yard field goal tied the game before Thomas supplied the decisive touchdown. Florida State kept the Eagles scoreless in the final period.

Earlier, Panikowski scored on a fake field goal to give the Seminoles a 21-17 halftime lead. The official report identifies Stockstill as the sixth Florida State coach to win his opening game, and the first since 2017.
