Twenty-one unanswered points decide it
Alabama defeated LSU 31-13 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge on November 7. The Crimson Tide scored the final 21 points in a span of 9:13 across the third and fourth quarters, overturning a 13-10 LSU lead.
Alabama moves to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in SEC play. LSU falls to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference. This is a completed game result; it does not itself settle a playoff place.
LSU gains yards but cannot convert
LSU outgained Alabama 457-285, but finished 5-for-14 on third down and 0-for-4 on fourth down. Alabama forced turnovers on downs on three of LSU’s final four drives, preventing that yardage advantage from becoming enough points.
Keelon Russell completed 17 of 24 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. He found Josh Ford for a seven-yard score late in the third quarter, then Cederian Morgan from 25 yards and Kaleb Edwards from four yards in the fourth.
Luke Metz led Alabama with 11 tackles and intercepted a pass. The Crimson Tide finished with four sacks, including two by Devan Thompkins.
Vanderbilt is next for Alabama
Alabama’s official report lists a road game at Vanderbilt for Saturday, November 14, with an 11:45 a.m. Central Time kickoff on SEC Network. That is the next fixture, separate from the LSU result.
The report uses different poll rankings for the teams. No new College Football Playoff ranking, guaranteed qualification or elimination is inferred here from this win.
