Lakers win the late Cup game
Luka Dončić scored 53 points as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 124-118 on Friday, November 6. The NBA confirmed the final result in its overnight Cup roundup, which was updated on November 7.
Los Angeles trailed 60-53 at halftime before outscoring Portland 34-15 in the third quarter. Dončić scored 20 points in that period. The Lakers also moved into first place in the Western Conference, according to the league report.
Seven straight games with 35 points, five rebounds and five assists
Dončić has now recorded at least 35 points, five rebounds and five assists in seven consecutive games. That ties Oscar Robertson for the longest such run in NBA history; Robertson’s sequence ran from December 25, 1964 to January 5, 1965.
It was also Dončić’s fourth consecutive game with at least 40 points. The NBA says he is the fourth Laker to achieve that feat and the first since Kobe Bryant in January 2012.
The early-season total reaches 361 points
Through his first nine games this season, Dončić has 361 points, an average of 40.1 per game. The league identifies Wilt Chamberlain as the only other player to average at least 40 points through his first nine games of a season.
These are individual scoring milestones and an NBA Cup group-stage result. Friday’s victory does not settle Cup qualification or the season’s final standings. The linked NBA roundup contains the final scores and a link to the official game box score.
