Multiplayer starts with the full release on 23 October
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for its full release on Friday, 23 October 2026. The publisher's 21 October multiplayer briefing confirms that date and sets out the launch maps and modes.
That is separate from the digital pre-order early-access windows. Activision's 15 October notice listed Campaign access from 16 October and DMZ access from 20 October. Access to either of those modes before launch does not mean the full multiplayer release has already happened.
PC preload and the midnight-local schedule
The official PC guide, dated 29 September, says the full game releases at midnight local time on 23 October. That means the start of Friday in your local time zone. This schedule comes from the PC guide; it is not a console-by-console unlock timetable.
PC preloading opened on 15 October at 9 a.m. Pacific Time for players who digitally pre-purchase the game. Both the minimum and recommended PC configurations list 115 GB of SSD storage. The guide also requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot and warns that mandatory updates may need additional storage. Check the official requirements against your hardware before starting the download. A preload prepares the installation ahead of the release; it does not bring the multiplayer launch forward.
Game Pass subscribers need a separate purchase at launch
Activision's 15 October announcement says Modern Warfare 4 will launch as a standalone purchase and will not join Game Pass until Holiday 2027. An existing subscription therefore does not cover the new game on 23 October.
The same notice says Game Pass Ultimate subscribers retain access to older Call of Duty titles, including Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III. That access should not be confused with ownership of Modern Warfare 4.
Shipment is scheduled for 27 October
The 21 October map briefing lists 12 Core 6v6 maps for launch. Shipment follows on 27 October, so it is not part of the day-one Core lineup.
The launch selection also includes three 32v32 Ground War maps, four 2v2 Gunfight maps and the modular Kill Block battleground for 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight. The official map guide linked below includes the individual layouts for players planning their first matches.
