Miami’s unbeaten run ends in South Bend
Notre Dame beat top-ranked Miami 31-24 at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend on Saturday, November 7. The result handed the Hurricanes their first loss and left both teams with 8-1 records, according to Notre Dame’s official game report.
Miami closed to within seven points in the fourth quarter, but Notre Dame kept the lead through the final possession. The win is a completed game result, not a College Football Playoff selection announcement.
Carr and Gilbert lead the passing attack
CJ Carr completed 29 of 40 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns. Micah Gilbert caught nine passes for 98 yards and two of those scores; Jordan Faison caught the other touchdown pass.
Notre Dame led 17-3 at halftime. Gilbert’s second touchdown reception extended the lead in the third quarter before Miami began its comeback.
The fourth-down plays that mattered
Early in the fourth quarter, Nolan James Jr. turned a fourth-and-two reception into a 36-yard gain to the Miami 7-yard line. He later scored on a 1-yard run, putting Notre Dame ahead 31-17. Miami answered with a touchdown that made it 31-24 with 9:53 remaining.
Luke Talich made a fourth-quarter interception and later broke up a fourth-down pass in the end zone after Miami had driven to the Notre Dame 22. The Hurricanes got one final possession, but could not complete the comeback.
Readers following the playoff race should keep this result separate from the next ranking release and the eventual selection of the field. The official match report establishes the score and team records; it does not settle either team’s postseason place.
