A four-stroke victory at the TOTO Japan Classic

Shuri Sakuma won her first LPGA Tour title on Sunday, November 8, closing with an 8-under 64 at the TOTO Japan Classic. Her 20-under 268 total put her four strokes clear of Aki Iwai.

The event was played at Taiheiyo Club Minori Course in Omitama, Ibaraki, Japan. The win adds an LPGA Tour title to Sakuma’s eight previous victories on the LPGA of Japan Tour. It is not her first professional tournament win.

Iwai finishes second after starting the day in front

Iwai began Sunday with the 54-hole lead at 15-under, one stroke ahead of Arpichaya Yubol. She finished with a 1-under 71 and a four-round total of 16-under 272.

LPGA’s round report records four birdies, one bogey and one double bogey for Iwai on Sunday. Birdies at the 15th and 17th helped her recover after the double bogey on the 13th, but Sakuma’s 64 was enough to move ahead of the field.

What the title changes for Sakuma

According to the tournament report published by LPGA, the victory makes Sakuma eligible to join the LPGA Tour. Eligibility does not, by itself, confirm that she has accepted membership or establish her future playing schedule.

Erika Hara finished third, five strokes behind Sakuma, after a final-round 70. The linked LPGA reports provide the tournament result and Iwai’s detailed round summary.
