Higher sales, but a larger loss
The Entertainer (Amersham) Limited reported sales of £303.2 million for the financial period ended 31 January 2026, up 12.5% from £269.4 million a year earlier. Its accounts were filed at Companies House on 3 November. These are the retailer’s historical accounts, rather than sales figures for this Christmas trading season.
The income statement records a total operating loss of £16.225 million, including donations, compared with £7.863 million in the previous period. Before donations, the operating loss was £16.115 million. Gross profit rose to £164.6 million from £155.7 million.
What the company says changed
The strategic report says gross margin fell by 3.5 percentage points to 54.3% as a larger share of turnover came through retail partnerships. It also identifies £5.4 million of costs associated with the first year of a major retail partnership, which the board says it does not expect to recur.
The company’s adjusted EBITDA measure was still negative at £1.1 million after excluding those mobilisation costs. That adjusted measure should not be read as a reported operating profit.
The accounts cover The Entertainer’s principal retail company. They are distinct from consolidated results for the wider TEAL Group, which also has other businesses.
Store changes belong to the reporting period
The report says the retailer opened six stores, relocated two and closed 17 unprofitable stores during the period. It also says Sunday trading began at the end of September 2025, when longstanding product-range restrictions were lifted, so only the closing months of the period benefited from those changes.
Those dates matter: the filing does not announce that all of these changes happened this week. The company’s current About Us page lists 154 Entertainer stores, while the accounts describe its earlier retail estate. For a visit, check the official store finder for the particular branch and opening hours; this report does not establish live stock or uniform Sunday hours.
