The proposal is for 2027, with no exact start day

Canada’s Budget 2026 proposes raising the price of a single stamp to C$2 beginning in 2027, alongside ongoing annual increases of 7%. The Canada Post section does not give an exact effective date or a separate new booklet price.

This is a budget proposal, rather than confirmation that a C$2 tariff is already in force. Do not treat January 1 as the start date unless a subsequent official notice establishes it.

What the current postage page says

At our November 6 UTC check, Canada Post still listed C$1.44 for a single domestic stamp and C$1.24 per stamp in a booklet for standard-size mail up to 30 grams. Those rates exclude tax. Destination, weight and size affect the amount of postage required.

Existing Permanent stamps remain useful

Canada Post says Permanent stamps, marked with a P instead of a printed price, remain accepted at the current domestic postage rate even after rates rise. Older value-denominated stamps can also be used when their combined value meets the required rate.

Check the official rate page before mailing. The budget’s C$2 single-stamp proposal does not by itself establish new parcel, U.S. or international letter rates.
