Why the alerts arrived together

Telstra says a MessageBank problem caused some customers to receive delayed missed-call and voicemail notifications together. In a statement dated November 4, the carrier said the issue had been fixed and apologised for the confusion.

These were delayed notifications, according to Telstra. Their arrival together should not be read as proof that all the calls happened at that moment.

Check MessageBank or Apple Live Voicemail

For MessageBank within Australia, Telstra's official instructions say to call 101 from your Telstra mobile. You will hear new voice messages before the main menu.

Apple Live Voicemail is a separate service. If it took the call, Telstra says the message is stored on the iPhone and can be found in the Phone app's Voicemail tab, rather than through 101. Check which voicemail service you use before assuming a message is missing.

Still having trouble?

Use Telstra's official outage checker for current service information, or contact support through My Telstra. The company's dated MessageBank announcement does not diagnose every individual phone or service issue.

The statement does not specify an affected-customer total or an exact recovery time. It attributes the batch of notifications to MessageBank; we have not independently tested an affected customer's service.

Statement checked at 18:51 UTC on November 4, equivalent to 5:51am AEDT on November 5.
